Origine géographique : l'espèce est présente depuis le Nord-est du Brésil jusqu'au centre de la Bolivie à l'Ouest et, delà jusqu'à la région de Buenos Aires en Argentine.
Statut dans la nature : en danger ; vulnérable ; pas globalement menacée ; fréquente ; abondante
Elevage en Europe : aucun ; occasionnel ; peu commun ; commun ; abondant.
Taxons inférieurs : une sous-espèce acceptée à ce rang en plus du type
marginalis (Naumburg, 1932) : endémique du Nord-est du Brésil (Piauí et Bahia, peut-être Goiás).
