Origine géographique : l’espèce est endémique de l'Etat du Michoacán au Mexique, dans trois zones disjointes. Il y pousse dans la Sierra Madre del Sur entre 1800 et 2400 m d'altitude. Espèce vulnérable qui compte environ 6000 arbres.
