Origine géographique : l’espèce est endémique de Chine (Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan, Shaanxi, Sichuan) et de l'extrême Nord-est du Vietnam. On trouve ce pin dans les zones montagneuses des régions subtropicales entre 1100 et 2500 m en Chine dans les pentes ensoleillées sèches et dans les forêts du Vietnam entre 900 et 1500 m d'altitude.
